the Rubinoos - Rock Goes To College

For a brief moment, the Rubinoos seemed to be the last hope for pure pop music, carrying on the tradition of the Raspberries with an engaging blend of innocent bubblegum and power pop. Jon Rubin and Tommy Dunbar formed the group as middle school students in Berkeley, California in 1973. In 1975, the group (now including Donn Spindt and Royse Ader) signed with Beserkley Records, an independent Berkeley label that also featured Jonathan Richman & the Modern Lovers and Greg Kihn. Their single "Gorilla" appeared on the first Beserkley release, the 1975 compilation album Beserkley Chartbusters.
In 1977, the unknown Beserkley released The Rubinoos' self-titled debut album. It was well-reviewed, and the single "I Think We're Alone Now" reached #45 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became Beserkley's first hit. The group appeared on American Bandstand (live) and So It Goes (by video).
The group's next album was Back To The Drawing Board (1979), featuring the single "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend", which had been released in 1978 and received heavy airplay in England and Europe but not in America. In support of this album, the Rubinoos appeared on Rock Goes To College – Which Is posted here - and were the opening act for Elvis Costello on the American portion of his Armed Forces tour.
Ader and Spindt left the group after Back To The Drawing Board. In 1983, the group, now consisting of just Rubin and Dunbar, signed with Warner Bros. Records and released the EP Party of Two, produced by Todd Rundgren. In 1984, they recorded "Revenge of the Nerds" and "Breakdown" for the film Revenge of the Nerds.

Haven't even heard it yet, but if the quality is as good as advertised, I bow in your General Direction. I am not Worthy. THANK YOU very much for posting my favorite pop band in the World.

Incredible. Could be my favorite boot ever. Much, much better quality than the commercially released boot with the reissued first disk. If you are Rubinoos fan, this is a must have. I wonder if they were even shaving back then.....
