ELECTRIC PROMS 2006
The BBC staged a brand new five-day rock and popular music festival this autumn to be called the BBC Electric Proms.
The event, took place from 25 to 29 October 2006, was a celebration of new and innovative musical styles.
It featured unique live performances from some of the biggest artists performing today as well as appearances from newer artists just breaking through.
The BBC Electric Proms was staged at The Roundhouse in London as well as at a selection of other Camden venues including The Electric Ballroom, KOKO, The Jazz Café and The Barfly.
A mixture of established acts headlined each evening's main stage performances alongside upcoming artists and acoustic sets in the other parts of The Roundhouse.
During the daytime there was also be film screenings, masterclasses and other musical and visual installations.
Taking its inspiration from the accessibility of the established BBC Proms, much of the BBC Electric Proms was free to attend.
BBC Electric Proms Festival Director Lorna Clarke said: "Our ambition is to stage an event that will create new musical moments and foster interesting collaborations between big name artists alongside exciting performances from up and coming talent."The mixture of headline acts combined with a rich variety of fringe performances means we should be able to reach a huge breadth of music fans in an exciting live environment"
