Erykah Badu - Live in Rome

She grew up listening to '70s soul and '80s hip-hop, but Erykah Badu drew more comparisons to Billie Holiday upon her breakout in 1997, after the release of her first album, Baduizm. The grooves and production on the album are bass-heavy R&B, but Badu's langurous, occasionally tortured vocals and delicate phrasing immediately removed her from the legion of cookie-cutter female R&B singers. A singer/songwriter responsible for all but one of the songs on Baduizm, she found a number 12 hit with her first single "On & On," which pushed the album to number two on the charts.
Born Erica Wright in Dallas in 1971, Badu attended a school of the arts and was working as a teacher and part-time singer in her hometown when she opened for D'Angelo at a 1994 show. D'Angelo's manager, Kedar Massenburg, was impressed with the performance and hooked her up with the singer to record a cover of the Marvin Gaye/Tammi Terrell duet "Precious Love." He also signed Badu to his recently formed Kedar Entertainment label, and served as producer for Baduizm, which also starred bassist Ron Carter and members of hip-hop avatars the Roots on several tracks. The first single, "On & On," became a number one R&B hit in early 1997, and Baduizm followed it to the top of the R&B album charts by March. Opening for R&B acts as well as rap's Wu-Tang Clan, Erykah Badu stopped just short of number one on the pop album charts in April. Her Live album followed later in the year. In 2000 she returned with her highly anticipated second studio album, Mama's Gun, which was co-produced by Badu, James Poyser, Bilal and Jay Dee and contained the hit single, "Bag Lady".

Gato Libre - Live at the Seven Arts Club

Gatolibre[1]Capturing the essence of folk music, Natsuki Tamura creates an acoustic session on “Strange Village” that lets him tell the stories vividly and completely. Through open trumpet, guitar, bass, and accordion, he communicates tales that stir the imagination and let the listener interpret accordingly. Each tale comes with rounded textures that belie humble surroundings where people know that they can feel at home. Slowly and deliberately, the music walks you through the streets and welcomes you with open arms.Tamura's soulful trumpet opens wide as he improvises over pretty melodies. He emphasizes passion without being overbearing about it. The focus for the album remains its casual four-part message that roams free as a bird (or cat). Each artist pours heartfelt emotion into the cauldron that represents Tamura's tale, and the mixture heats up from within.
Stress? This village has none. Its music simmers peacefully on the shoulders of Tamura's open horn, Satoko Fujii's soothing accordion, Kazuhiko Tsumura's crystal-clear guitar, and Norikatsu Koreyasu's proud bass. Together, they create a picture of serenity and unity. Celebrations come and go as the quartet explores free jazz with timeless sonority.
Gato Libre's free association over timeless textural territory gives this highly recommended album a warm embrace. Tamura's open trumpet seals it. His quartet has found a formula that connects the music of our ancestors with the freedom that we enjoy in today's modern society.

Natsuki Tamura - trumpet
Satoko Fujii - accordion

Tripdavon - Isla Vista

Tripdavon0001

Tripdavon originally flourished in Isla Vista, where throngs of wandering revelers allow for a greater variety of musical acts. The band’s first gig had them performing at an apartment complex on Del Playa Drive for 400 I.V. partiers. They called it 25-a-Palooza. “In I.V., you have a captive audience,” guitarist Greg Doscher said. “We had people lying on their roof and listening to our first gig. It was great….The kind of energy you find in IV — you just can’t match that anywhere else.”
Tripdavon Announces November Release for second album with Tool, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and System of a Down Producer. Santa Barbara, CA, October 17th, 2006 – California Rock band, Tripdavon has officially set the release date of their second full length album for November 14, 2006. The new eleven track album, titled: "The Enlightened Operative", was recorded by legendary producer, Sylvia Massy Shivy, whose credits include platinum albums from Tool, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and System of a Down.

I “grabbed” them live while opening for British Blues veterean Eric Brudon last Monday at the Royal Albert Hall. I must confess that I had never heard of them before… I have been stunned by their energy on stage… The powerfull singer voice… and the catchy song choruses – Lifeline, Never let you go ect -. Sadly that was a short set... too short... When are you coming back???

That is A MUST listen to and spread the word around!!!! You guys rock!!! Best discovery 2008!!!

Johnny Cash - Glastonbury Blues

Cash%20Glastonbury[1]

While Orbital were making a name for themselves, that same year a living legend found a whole new audience. Arriving on stage in front of 50,000 young people going absolutely mental, he looked out in seeming disbelief. Then he went up to the mic, said those famous words "Hello. I'm Johnny Cash", the band crashed into Folsom Prison Blues and a legendary Glastonbury performance began. Cash later wrote that his Glastonbury appearance was one of the highlights of his career.

the Delays - Lemon Grove

the Delays are an English indie band formed in Southampton, consisting of brothers Greg and Aaron Gilbert, Colin Fox and Rowly. Likened to the Cocteau Twins and noted for the lead vocalist's falsetto, they have recorded three albums to date, all receiving warm critical response, and modest chart success.
The band were originally formed under the name Corky, where they were heavily influenced by British bands, Manic Street Preachers and The La's. The original line-up consisted of Greg, drummer Rowly, bassist Colin and lead guitarist Dan Hall, who left before Greg's brother Aaron was invited to join.
Under the name Idoru, they were signed on Blanco y Negro records and released one EP with the label, Safety in Numbers EP, in November 2001. They changed to their present name before signing for Rough Trade records, under which they released their debut album Faded Seaside Glamour in April 2004, and immediately broke into the top 20 albums in the U.K. album chart. On the back of support slots of popular bands such as Franz Ferdinand and the Manic Street Preachers - whom they cite as influences, as well as their own worldwide tours, all of the band's singles have reached the UK Top 40 since their second single "Hey Girl" in July 2003.
The second album You See Colours was released in March 2006, and saw a breakthrough when their songs began being used as backing music on the football highlights show Match of the Day, and also commercially; "Long Time Coming" was utilised for a national campaign advertising broadband in the UK, and to advertise jewellery in the USA. The band were invited to play most of the major British festivals in the summer of 2006, and in May of that year, they also parted ways with Rough Trade by mutual consent, and signed with Fiction / Polydor in December. The music video for "Valentine" received regular play on MTV, and also gave them their first appearance on the popular Top of the Pops programme on the BBC.
After being dropped by Rough Trade Records, they were shortly picked up by another record label, Fiction Records. This was seen as a step into the mainstream crowd, as Fiction is also the label for many popular bands such as the Irish indie band Snow Patrol.
Their debut release on Fiction, Everything's the Rush was released in May 2008, and was recorded over a 20-day period in Spain. The first single to be released from the album was "Hooray". This was preceded by an EP, Love Made Visible, released in November 2007.
"Keep It Simple" was the next single released from Everything's the Rush. The video for the single stars Ewen Macintosh who played Keith in The Office.
In October 2008 Delays released the Lost Tunes, an EP of assorted covers, for digital download sale.

Leo Kottke - That's What is called picking

LeoKottke0001Leo Kottke is a widely-recognized master of the acoustic guitar. He is widely known for his idiosyncratic fingerpicking style, which draws on blues, jazz, and folk music influences, and his syncopated, polyphonic melodies. His work is often considered part of the American Primitivism movement, partly because he was signed to John Fahey's Takoma Records label. Kottke's powerful technique, combined with his prolific output and extensive touring schedule, resulted in a lingering pain in his hands which began to hamper his playing in the middle of the 1980s. Consequently, the beginning of his tenure on Private Music coincided with the beginnings of a shift in technique closer to classical guitar performance; he also slowed his productivity, and after 1986's reflective A Shout Towards Noon he did not re-enter the studio before recording Regards From Chuck Pink in 1988. Simultaneously, Kottke cut back dramatically on his live schedule, settling comfortably into his role as a cult figure. He released an album annually from 1989 to 1991, following My Father's Face with That's What and finally Great Big Boy, which featured a guest appearance from Lyle Lovett. Two years later, Kottke returned with Peculiaroso, which featured production by Rickie Lee Jones. The solo One Guitar No Vocals followed in 1999, but it was his collaboration with Phish bassist Mike Gordon, Clone, that caught audiences' attention in 2002. Kottke returned to the solo realm with 2004's Try and Stop Me, released on Bluebird

The Skatalites - Au Duchet Du Luxembourg

For more than 30 years, Ska survives, regenerates, outfachions, Headlines again, implying rockeurs, followers of reggae, of dub, the punks… Skatalites, they, are always there, escaping the influence of time. Lead by a little insane trombonist that was Don Drummond, the group gave birth to this mélodioux and rich Ska which tainted with various musical inspirations, mixture of R& B, African rastafaris rhythms and Cuban percussions. Marked of an open-minded incomparable, Skatalites picked in all the musical universes which they know, also collaborating with Prince Buster or Toots Hibbert, which with a jazzband…. With more than thirty albums to the meter, the combo became a true mythical group, writing some of the most beautiful pages of the ska jamaïcain. Their beginnings with today, original band with the current formation off perdurent titles like “Guns Navarone”, “City Phoenix” or “James Bond Theme”. Titles never unfashionable, like their authors.

Massive Attack - Mezzanine Live

Massive RAHMassive Attack's third album, Mezzanine, was released in 1998. Mezzanine showed the band moving towards an extremely dark, tense sound filled with distorted guitars and a combination of drum machines and live percussion that lacked the laid-back, jazzy nature they had occasionally shown in their previous albums. Original member Vowles, dissatisfied with this change in sound, left the band shortly after the release of the album. He was replaced by Neil Davidge, who worked with Del Naja for much of his material on Mezzanine. The release of Mezzanine also led to a change in Massive Attack's live show. In addition to their previous simple set up of a few mics and turntables, the group began incorporating more and more live instrumentation into their shows. In addition to their usual numerous guest vocalists, the trio were now being joined on stage by a live guitarist, bassist, drummer, and keyboard player, as well as a video screen and lighting effects.

Radiohead - Amnesty

The Amnesty International concert at Paris Bercy Stadium marked the 50th anniversary of the United Nations' Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Some other artists that also performed are Alanis Morissette, Tracy Chapman, Asian Dub Foundation, Peter Gabriel, and Kassav.
The members of Radiohead have said: "The Amnesty International human rights concerts in Paris will be our only European appearance this year. We hope this is an effective way to support Amnesty International in their positive work to promote the human rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration. Without the work of Amnesty, the Declaration would be mere rhetoric."
RADIOHEAD played to a sell out 16,000 crowd in Paris on December 10th at the Amnesty International concert celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Universal Declaration Of Human Rights, their only gig this year
With a bill that also included ALANIS MORISSETTE, BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN - who played an acoustic very early in the evening - and PAGE & PLANT, Radiohead's set was generally acknowledged to be vintage stuff.
THOM YORKE appears relaxed and combative. (writes NME's JAMES OLDHAM) Eyes shut and head shaking, his every move provokes screaming delirium in the crowd, and when he starts punching the air and jumping on the spot just prior to 'Paranoid Android', he provokes fainting fits across the building. That the audience regard him as human in bodily form alone is beyond doubt, and frankly, it's lucky he doesn't know any French beyond an occasional "Ca Va?" or else Amnesty would be forced to lay on extra ambulances.
After only fifty minutes of this frenzied devotion (which is still a full twenty minutes longer than anyone else has been allotted) Radiohead are forced to begin their final song, with an eloquent reminder of why they are here and a simple thank you. What follows is a carefully measured rendition of 'Street Spirit (Fade Out)', the tick-tock rhythm and sky-bound melody soaring out and above the crowd before snapping to a halt in an instant and leaving the band to depart in silence.
Originally, instead of 'Street Spirit', Radiohead had planned to play a new song called 'The Thief', but last minute they changed their minds.

Eric Burdon Declared WAR Again

War

Monday 21 April saw the historic reunion of Eric Burdon and War for a very special night of electrifying R&B, funk, Latin and jazz. This was the first concert Eric Burdon and War had performed in 37 years since they originally disbanded in 1971.
Originally the front man of the Animals, the legendary Eric Burdon is considered to be one of the greatest blues singers in the world. With a distinctive sound that captured the heart and soul of 1970’s America, Los-Angeles based WAR played the music that made people dance and think. Their 1970 album Eric Burdon Declares WAR included two No. 1 worldwide hits - Spill the Wine and Tobacco Road.

Iron Maiden - Secret Gig at the Marquee Club

IM19850001Even when this one is listed as an Iron Maiden bootleg this one is something else is more a 2/5 of Maiden. At the end of the 1985 world slavery tour the boys took 6 months off, in the meanwhile Mr. Adrian Smith with no personal life in that moment only musical life decide to work in a solo project with the help of Nicko Mc Brain, they started jamming with some friends like Dave Colwell: guitars (Samson) the one who wrote Reach Out (Wasted Years B-side), Andy Barnnet: Guitars (Urchin & FM) he is part of the writers of That Girl (Stranger in a strange land B-side) & Martin Connoly (Nicko's Friend), their set includes songs from all the members and some covers from Thin Lizzy, ZZ top and two Adrian's songs Lady & Silver & Gold.
Nicko arranged two gigs one under the name The Entire population of Hackney & other under the name The Sherman Tankers. This Audience recording was taken from the first show and was the beginning of ASAP (Adrian Smith & Project), Bruce Dickinson & Steve Harris joined the band on stage only for the Encores: Losfer words, 2 minutes to midnight, Rosalie & Tush.
As you can see 3 guitars is not new for Iron Maiden members (This also happened at the 1992 Donington Festival when Adrian Joined the band for Running Free as you can hear in the official recording).
Anyway this is not the full show the song Lady is missing on this label and you can find this track on the other version of this bootleg London Secret Gig – first edition of this document -.
