the Brand New Heavies - Ministers of New Super Heavy Funk
The Brand New Heavies began in the 1980's as an instrumental rare groove group called Brother International.
The group came up with the Heavies name after signing their first record contract, borrowing from a liner note on a James Brown single declaring the artist "Minister of New Super Heavy Funk". As The Brand New Heavies, they gained a cult following in the London club scene and soon signed to Cooltempo as acid jazz replaced rare groove in clubs. The band would issued a debut recording for Eddie Pillar's Acid Jazz label in 1990 with Jay Ella Ruth as lead singer.
A single, "Got To Give", came out on Cooltempo before the Brand New Heavies signed to Acid Jazz Records and released Brand New Heavies to critical acclaim. The band signed to a division of Chrysalis Records in the UK,[1] and American distribution was picked up by influential label Delicious Vinyl, and N'Dea Davenport (who had signed an artist development deal with Delicious Vinyl) joined the group. A revamped version of the first album with vocals by N'Dea Davenport was then released, and the singles "Dream Come True" and "Never Stop," both with Davenport vocals, became hits on both sides of the Atlantic.
The group's appearance with MC Serch (formerly of 3rd Bass) and Q-Tip (of A Tribe Called Quest) at a performance in New York City, inspired the group to incorporate elements of hip hop music. Their next album was the critically acclaimed Heavy Rhyme Experience, Vol. 1, which included collaborations with Guru of Gang Starr and The Pharcyde, among others, but lacked any female vocals.
Brother Sister (1994) was the last album for a while with N'Dea Davenport, who had left to complete her solo album (which she had put on hold to join the Heavies). The album spawned more singles, though one of them, a cover of Maria Muldaur's "Midnight at the Oasis," was popular only in the UK because it was not included in the US version of the album.

Teaser - Burning Heart
In 1981 van den Berg worked with vocalist Jos Veldhuizen, bassist Griff "Studly" McGrath, and drummer Bico De Gooijer in a band called Teaser. He auditioned for Thin Lizzy, without success. With a new line-up (Bert Heerink (vocals), van den Berg (guitar), Dick Kemper (bass), and Jos Zoomer on drums), Teaser recorded a demo that fell into the hands of pop-journalist Kees Baars. Baars offered to manage the group, and contracted the band at Atlantic Records in the U.S.
Their debut album was recorded at the former Led Zeppelin's guitarist Jimmy Page's studio, and in 1983 their first single "Burning Heart" reached #39 in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 charts. Vandenberg toured the U.S. as opening act for Ozzy Osbourne and KISS, and toured independently in Japan in 1984. "Different Worlds" from their second album also did fairly well in the charts, but did not equal the success of "Burning Heart".

Death In June - Dark Sun
Death In June is the musical brainchild of English folk musician Douglas Pearce, better known as Douglas P. Death In June was originally formed in Britain in 1981 as a trio, but after the other members left in 1985 to work on other projects, the group became the work of Douglas Pearce and various collaborators - Albin Julius, Andreas Ritter, Boyd Rice -. Pearce now lives in Australia.
Over Death In June's two decades of existence, numerous shifts in style and presentation have occurred, resulting in an overall shift from initial post-punk and Industrial Records influence to a more acoustic and folk music-oriented approach. Although sometimes considered controversial, Death In June has become very influential in certain post-industrial musical circles. Pearce's influence was instrumental in sparking neofolk, which his music has subsequently become a part of.

Aretha Franklin - R.E.C.E.P.T.S.T.O.C.K.H.O.L.M
In 1967, Franklin issued her first Atlantic single, "I Never Loved A Man (The Way I Love You)", a bluesy ballad that introduced listeners to Franklin's gospel-throated vocals. Produced by Jerry Wexler, the song became Franklin's breakthrough single hitting the Top 10 on the Hot 100 and holding the #1 spot for an amazing 7 weeks on Billboard's R&B Singles chart. The B-side to the single, "Do Right Woman, Do Right Man" introduced a more gospel element to Franklin's developing sound and charted well on the R&B side. Her next single, "Respect", firmly launched Franklin to superstardom. Written and originally recorded by Otis Redding, Franklin's feminist version of the song became a monster hit reaching #1 on both the R&B and the Pop charts and helping her Atlantic debut album, I Never Loved A Man The Way I Love You, reach million-seller status. For the next ten months, Franklin issued top ten hits such as "Baby I Love You", "Chain Of Fools" and "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman". In early 1968 she won her first two Grammies for "Respect" including the first Grammy given to an artist in the Best R&B Female Vocal Performance category. Because of this, Franklin would automatically be a winner of eight Best R&B Female Vocal Performance categories in a role before Natalie Cole broke the streak with her single, "This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)", which ironically was originally given to Franklin who passed on it.

the CARS - University Of Sussex 1978
The Cars were an American rock band, fronted by Ric Ocasek, that emerged from the early punk scene in the late 1970s. Other members of the band were bassist Benjamin Orr, guitarist Elliot Easton, keyboardist Greg Hawkes and drummer David Robinson. They hailed from Boston, Massachusetts and were signed to Elektra Records in 1977.
After spending the winter of ’76 playing all over New England, developing, honing, and ultimately perfecting the songs that would become their debut album, the band was signed to Elektra Records. The demo version of "Just What I Needed" would turn out to be the first single from the band’s debut album, The Cars, released in 1978 and reaching #3 on the Billboard Pop album chart. "My Best Friend’s Girl" and "Good Times Roll" soon followed, charting in the Billboard Top 40. Following the lead of Roxy Music, the band commissioned famed Playboy artist Alberto Vargas to design the sexy illustration for the cover of their second album, Candy-O, released in 1979. Hits from that album included "Let’s Go" and "It’s All I Can Do", both Top 40 hits.

Morgan Heritage - the reggea familly
Morgan Heritage is a reggae band formed by five children of famed reggae-artist Denroy Morgan. Despite their relative youth, they have been referred to as "reggae royalty". Having grown up in their father's music studio in the U.S. the group, then consisting of eight of the children, made their first appearance at Reggae Sunsplash in Jamaica. They were subsequently signed by MCA and released their debut album Miracles in 1994. They have since criticized Miracles as being overly pop-influenced.
A year later the family moved to Denroy's homeland of Jamaica. In this period, three family members left the group. In Jamaica, Morgan Heritage began working with famed reggae producers Bobby Dixon and Lloyd James, resulting in the release of the critically acclaimed album Protect Us Jah (1997), followed by One Calling (1998), and the spiritually-inclined Don't Haffi Dread (1999). They released two albums by "The Morgan Heritage Family and Friends", and the Live in Europe! album recorded on their 2000 tour. Morgan Heritage toured in Europe again following the release of their 2001 album More Teachings... Their sixth studio album, Three in One, came out in 2003. They have released two DVDs (Live In London and Live Over Europe 2003) with good success and "Full Circle" (2005)
There is a sibling band called LMS (comprised of other Morgan siblings) which is more hip-hop influenced. LMS often tours with Morgan Heritage.
Morgan Heritage is one of the most influential reggae bands today, and have returned to Jamaica, where they opened a studio and released 3 compilations of "Morgan Heritage Family and Friends".
